
With just two days left for Hornbill festival, around 10 thatched houses meant for tourists was burned down at Chida post near to Khezhakeno village by unknown miscreants during the wee hours on Thursday morning.
The People’s Festival is being celebrated at Chida, Khezhakeno village under Phek district as part of the annual Hornbill Festival from December 1-10.
Police source confirmed the news that the thatched houses were burnt down around 1 a.m. Police personnel rushed to the spot and tired to douse the inferno, however the fire quickly got hold of the thatched houses.
Around 10 thatch houses were completely burnt, but no casualties were reported in the incident.
Police sources informed that they have deployed additional police personnel including NAP and IRB in the area.
It was also learnt that the Kezhakeno village youth took the initiative to construct new thatch houses and was said to be completed on Friday.
