District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Peren and Mon districts conducted one day workshop on “mediation techniques” with customary court officials and district dobashis (DBs) in their respective districts.
A press release by Nagaland Legal Services Authority (NLSA) stated that “mediation” is a voluntary, party-centered and structured negotiation process where a third neutral party (mediator) assists the parties in amicably resolving their disputes by using specialised communication and negotiation techniques.
The release stated that in Nagaland, DBs as mediators could play a vital role of settling disputes by using mediation techniques in customary courts for which training was required.
Peren: Peren DLSA organised the workshop on October 23which was attended by 40 DBs from different circles under Peren district.
The chairperson for the programme, panel lawyer, Asuni highlighted the working mechanism of legal services authority. Resource person, Limhathung Ezong from State Legal Services Authority, spoke on the significance of mediation, the requisite skills and knowledge of a mediator and the steps to be taken in order to achieve a successful mediation between the disputed parties.
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by DB Adwa.
Mon: Mon DLSA on October 24 organised the training at Customary Court DC Office Mon. Keynote address and topic on concept of mediation, applicability of mediation techniques in customary court, types of cases that can be referred for mediation was delivered by chief judicial magistrate cum secretary MDLSA, Seyielenuo Mezhii.
The programme was chaired by panel lawyer, N. Mannon and welcome address was delivered by retainer lawyer, M. Moba.
