Under its civic action programme, Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (HQ IGAR-North) organized various problems for the local populace across Nagaland.
Wokha Bn: Wokha Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised a free medical camp at Ralan village on October 27. The aim of the camp was to provide freemedical consultation and basic treatment to the residents of Ralan and adjoining villages, especially the aged and women folks. Medicines were provided for basic ailments and awareness on importance of timely vaccination, personal hygiene and sanitation was conducted.
Kohima Bn: Kohima Battalion of Assam Rifles provided medical consultation to children of Eden Garden Children’s Home, Khuzama on October 19 at Kohima garrison. Eden Garden Children’s Home, Khuzama is a home to 272 children belonging to Nagaland and Manipur.
Apart from providing free medical consultation, basic treatment for dental related problems and common ailments were provided and awareness on common viral diseases owing to seasonal change and its precautions was also imparted.
Zunheboto Bn: Zunheboto Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a lecture on “educated Nagas’ progressive Nagaland” on October 18 at St. Peter’s School, Atoizu, Zunheboto.
The lecture was aimed to emphasize on the significance of education for a peaceful and prosperous society. Students were also informed about the importance of education in generating avenues for a better career and future.
Jalukie Bn: Jalukie Battalion observed October 21 as a day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. An exercise was undertaken to sensitize local populace, youth in particular, about the menace of drugs and other controlled substances. A lecture broadly covering, the forms of abuse to human body and its consequences to families and eventually on society were conducted.
Lecture was followed by an awareness rally at Tening town which was participated by Students and teachers from SFS and Baptist School.
NIT: National Integration Tour comprising of three teachers and 23 students from Assembly of God Higher Secondary School, Dimapur was organised by Assam Rifles from September 30 to October 12. The NIT delegation visited New Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar.
Phek Bn: Phek Battalion of Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted an interactive session with village functionaries and nearby areas on October 25, at customary court, Kiphire town. The interaction was focused on liaison between the locals and security forces about the issues concerning the local populace like health, education, employment, sports and illegal extortion. The interaction was an initiative to give confidence to local population to engage more closely with Assam Rifles to maintain peace in the region. 30 GBs attended the meeting.
Mon Bn: Mon Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) conducted a weapon display at Govrenment Middle School, Lungwa on October 25.
As part of the even various weapons used by the Assam Rifles and Infantry Battalions were displayed. Queries raised by students were entertained and clarified.
Altogether, 55 students and four school teachers attended the event.
Meanwhile, Mon Battalion also organized a friendly football match at Naginimora on October 24, with an aim to motivate local youth to engage in physical activities to keep fit.
