Training for investigators on women’s safety ends

Five-day training for investigators on women’s safety organised by Nagaland Police Training School (NPTS) Chumukedima culminated on December 7. A press release by NPTS stated that the training was sponsored by BPR&D, MHA, government of India for in-service officers of Nagaland Police from the rank of ASI’s to Inspectors. The training was conducted under the supervision of IGP (Trg) Liremo Lotha and the overall supervision by DIG (Trg) Aotemsu.

The course was inaugurated by commissioner of police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo on December 3 and attended by 29 officers from all over Nagaland. NPTS principal, Aboli Metha, highlighted the importance of the course and urged the participants to make the maximum benefit of the course to improve their investigative skills on crime against women and ensured safety of women. The sessions included lectures, demonstrations, practical hands on exercises of the Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit (SAECK) and also visits to Courts and Women Police Station. The resource persons were senior police officers, legal luminaries, forensics, medicines and the Director of renowned NGO, Prodigals Home. 

The topics included women empowerment, role of community policing and importance of police attitude towards women during investigation, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Laws relating to Crime against women including SOPs and guidelines for investigators, medico legal aspects of rape cases, role of NGOs in rescue and rehabilitation of victims of trafficking and Legal amendments and judicial pronouncements in different provisions of law dealing with offences against women. Participants were also educated about cyber related crimes against women and children on social media and the methods for investigating. On December 7, gracing the valedictory programme, DIG (Trg), Aotemsu, encouraged the trainees to apply in the field the investigative knowledge learned during the training course. He stressed on the importance of women in the society, stated that “as members of the law enforcing agency it is our duty to ensure that women and children are safe in our society.”
