16, 586 for police recruitment rally

Recently held Nagaland Police (NP) Open Recruitment Rally (ORR) witnessed a vast number of 16,586 eligible applicants from across the state for the posts of 78 Constables (GD) at NAP and 128 Constables (GD) at DEF.

A press release from Police Headquarters, Kohima informed that the ORR was conducted as per the existing reservation policies of the government.
The release said the recruitment process was divided into several categories which included physical fitness test, medical test, written test and oral interview.
The highest number of candidates who appeared for the written test was from Mon with 818 candidates followed by Tuensang with 805 candidates. Out of 4,642 candidates who qualified for the written test, 650 candidates (male/female) were shortlisted for the Oral Interview which was conducted at the Police Complex, Chumukedima.
DGP, T. John Longkumer described the response to the open recruitment as “extremely overwhelming”.  He said the primary focus of the rally was to provide an opportunity for the youth of this state and motivate them to join the Nagaland Police.
“The recruitment depends on perseverance and hard work. This year, we saw a good number of candidates from the backward tribe who did exceptionally well in the various tests,” said Longkumer.
From the final selection in line with the existing case laws on implementation of vertical and horizontal reservation policies, 60% candidates belonging to the “backward tribe” got selected out of which 45 candidates were selected in the general category, informed the release.
The release said the candidates in possession of NCC ‘C’ certificate holders were awarded extra points and selected as well. The ex-servicemen also participated in the ORR where two ex-servicemen are recommended for appointment. The women applicants have performed well and have exceeded in all stages of the recruitment process.
