NPF party accepts Kenye’s resignation as secy. general
Reiterating his party’s position, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu said NPF had opposed Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the past and would continue to do so even in the present avatar– Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Speaking to Nagaland Post, NPF president warned that the Act would do harm to Nagas, adding that they should realise this. He alleged that CAA was drafted and passed purely on religious lines. He admitted that Christian immigrants too have been covered by the Act along with the Hindus, but added that the piece of legislation could not convince NPF.
Refusing to comment on the stand taken by his party’s Rajya Sabha member KG Kenye, who voted in favour of CAB on December 10, Liezietsu reiterated that NPF was against CAB and asserted that NPF would not accept it under any circumstances. He said he had accepted the resignation letter of Kenye from the post of secretary general of NPF, adding that action would be initiated against him as per recommendation of Disciplinary Action Committee.
Liezietsu pointed out that the exemption provided to ILP States, besides Sixth Schedule areas, was of little value as their implementation was lax, cautioning that Nagas should not be content by saying they were safe.
He maintained that India was a great country and its greatness stemmed from unity in diversity. Therefore, trying to impose the concept of one country, one religion and one language would tantamount to destroying the greatness of India, he added. He alleged that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was taking populist measures, whose impact would be known in another 10/20 years.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that Kenye has submitted his reply to the show-cause notice served by the party.
