Student bodies hold sessions

Several student bodies across the state conducted their respective sessions. Following are the reports from Shena Old Student Union, Khulazu Basa Students’ Union, Phek Students’ Union and Thürütsüswumi Students Union.

SOSU: Shena Old Student Union held its 60th session Friday under the theme, “Distinctive of Sumi Identity” with Er. Picto Shohe, MLA, as special guest.

In his speech, Er. Picto called upon the student community to uphold the practice of cultural activities in order to preserve “our identity”.

Er. Picto also cautioned the young generation not to sail away from the good virtues, like honesty and sincerity, of their ancestors but to emulate them.

He further stressed on the importance of good educational foundation which would enable a person to be responsible and self dependent in the society. 

He reminded the students of the words “obedience and blessings” in the Bible and asked them to be obedient to their parents and elders for assured blessings from God. 

KBSU: Khulazu Basa Students’ Union (KBSU) held its 63rd general session under the theme, “knowledge consumption” Friday at Khulazu Basa village under Phek district.

A press release by the union stated that guest speaker, director for Soil & Water Conservation, Viliehu Nguzhu stressed on quality and practical education for real life application. He said education devoid of quality and practicality was a liability. Nguzhu also exhorted the students to learn from an unfortunate situation or a “bad person”. 

The presidential address was delivered by Khosato Chuzho, welcome address by Village council chairman Vechohu Chuzho. The second session was graced by Khruhuyi Keyho as the session speaker and meritorious awards to the students were also given away during the occasion.  

PSU: Two-day long 61st general session of Phek Students’ Union-cum-cultural dance competition 2019 got underway on Friday at Phek village.

A release from the union informed that district & Session Judge Zunheboto Niechochiyi S. Venuh was the inaugural speaker and spoke on the session theme, “Exploring greater horizon”. 

The function was led by Er. Nuthozo Hoshi, welcome address was delivered by PSU vice president Kudezo Chizo and PSU general secretary Akuve Soho gave the activities of the PSU. Day one proceedings were marked by quartet indigenous, quiz, extempore speech and business hour.

TSU: Thürütsüswumi Students Union (TSU) 47th general session was held under the theme “Trending education with culture” on Friday with Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA, as the special guest.  

In his address, Azo said Nagas are known for their hard work and honesty adding “If we work hard we will surely become successful and thereby become an asset to our society and not a liability.” 

Stating that knowledge without a purpose can become a very dangerous tool for the society, Azo said the purpose of one’s knowledge should be to serve the people in the right manner in order to deliver goods and justice.

Earlier, Thiiriitsiiswumi village council chairman Thiiyesasho Swuro shared greetings while TSU presiden,t Vekiitho Swuro delivered presidential address. Debate and poetry recitation also marked the session.
