Nagaland Peace Centre (NPC) Kohima has expressed that central government should be sensitive to Naga people and its present situation and work for a peaceful solution.
A press release from NPC chairman Pedi Miachieo stated that, central government extension of AFSPA to Nagaland state is highly insensitive and tyrannical, especially while the GoI and Naga people talks are still under process.
NPC stated that extension of AFSPA to Nagaland was not only a threat to the ongoing peace talk but also a threat to democracy as it will affect the law and order situation of the state.
NPC fears that such tyranny on the part of the central government would refresh old memories where many Nagas had suffered under the Indian militancy and that it would further create numerous hindrances to the peace progress of the state, in particular and the country in general.
NPC also condemned the government of India declaring the whole state of Nagaland as disturbed area and extending the armed forces special power act (AFSPA).
