Kiphire Deputy Commissioner, Mohammed Ali Shihab has called upon the medical fraternity to take the Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign as missionary work. He asked them to make sure that the campaign was result oriented, where every eligible person is vaccinated.
The Kiphire DC was addressing the launching of the District Level Workshop on Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign in the CMO’s Conference room in Kiphire.
Shihab said as Kiphire has been declared an Aspirational District, focus will be on key sectors such as Health, Education, Financial inclusion, Agriculture, basic infrastructure and Power. According to him, out of these, special focus will be given to the Health and Education sectors. He expressed hope that the spirit of the campaign to eradicate Measles-Rubella would reach the village level. He urged the vaccination team to properly sensitise the people about the advantages of vaccination so that the vaccination campaign could achieve its objectives.
He said people in developed countries face lifestyle diseases, while in India, as a developing country, it was still facing communicable diseases as a result of which the central government was focussing strongly on the health sector.
Expressing concern over the lack of access to good health care facilities in Kiphire, he said that the department needed to come up with a mechanism that could carter to the demand of the people. Good health care of citizens is a basic human right which cannot be denied, he stated. Briefly highlighting the aims and objectives of the campaign, Dr. K. Pewezo Khalo DPO (UIP&RCH) stated that the program was the initiative of the GoI. He said that Kiphire was the first district in Nagaland where the campaign for elimination and eradication of Measles- Rubella was being launched.
He stated that the vaccination campaign would be held in phases, adding that around 9 crore children across India had been vaccinated with Measles Rubella (MR) vaccine.
He said the primary purpose of the workshop was to sensitise health workers on how to carry forward the campaign to achieve its aims and objectives.
Also speaking in the event R. Wilfred, SDO(C), Kiphire said advancement in health and education had the potential to transform the social setup and he expressed the hope that issues related to health and education facing the rural population would be solved on a priority basis in the future. Maintaining that Kiphire had the potential to transform itself, he called upon the Medical Officers to be open in giving suggestions, opinions and ideas to improve the standards of health care in Kiphire.
