Livestock fertility camp held in Mezoma

The department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary services conducted a “Fertility Camp” on July 2 under “National Livestock Development Board Scheme 2017-18” with progressive farmers of dairy, mithun and indigenous cattle-thutho at Mezoma Village.
In a press release, livestock in-charge and member Vise Krose deputy CVO, Kohima said that at the camp, Dr. Joseph M. Angami briefed farmers on the importance of livestock for rural economic upliftment. The farmers were also exhorted to take up livestock as a subsidiary occupation to supplement their livelihoods.
The other resource persons were:  DLDO, Kohima, Dr. Pusazonu Chusi who deliberated on ‘Fertility Management, Care & Management of pregnancy and Reproductive cycles in dairy animals.’ VS, Vety Hospital, Kohima, Dr. Elizabeth Yhome spoke on ‘Health care and feeding of pregnant cows.’ Medicines of mineral mixtures, vitamins and dewormer (althelmintics) were also distributed to all the participants of mithun and dairy farmers.
The Village Council, Mezoma extended its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the department, particularly the officers and staffs of CVO, Kohima for creating awareness and updating the scientific skills and methods of rearing cows including the management method of semi-domesticated mithun which are largely reared in the village area.
The Council further appealed to the Department to conduct such other programs and assist the farmers in future as Animal Husbandry plays a vital role in their family income.
