Minister for Higher & Technical Education and BJP state president, Temjen Imna Along on Friday asserted that the day we shed “isms” we will start to live life prosperously, in unity and learn to be visionaries.
He was speaking as the special guest at the Eastern Christian College (ECC) 26th annual fresher’s meet, Padumpukhuri, Dimapur, held at the college auditorium. The program was held under the theme “The beginning of your excellence.”
Lamenting that today society was in deep pain because it divides itself in the name of tribes, “isms” and groups and only think of personal benefit, he warned that this was the beginning of the destruction of the future of a people. He asserted that we needed to go back and become one people under one state and one nation.
He further stated that only cowards go back to build boundaries among themselves, but also expressed the belief that one day Nagaland would shed “isms” and start to live life prosperously.
He also told the students that just as the college caters to multi ethnic cultures, tribes and traditions, they should also learn to do away with “isms” and start living to prosper.
He also encouraged the students saying that looks and background did not matter. If people start thinking about these things of others, he said that they themselves would never achieve their best.
Congratulating the college and calling it one of the most vibrant colleges in Nagaland, Along said that the college had been standing despite problems and hardships. He wished the college the best in their endeavours.
The program highlighted songs, dance, declaration of ECC Mr. and Miss fresher’s 2018 — Tokhuo Humtsoe and Haihengyile respectively. The program also facilitated students who brought laurels to the college with their contributions.
Later, vote of thanks was delivered by ECCSU, vice principal Khatwang.
