Reacting to the ultimatum served by All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA), the Kohima Village Council (KVC) stated that it was not the time to serve ultimatum but to approach the government and public with their problems for assistance if it has not yet reached them.
A press release from KVC chairman Dr. Neiphi Kire and secretary Zeniezo Rutsa while appreciating the plight of the association, also reminded ANTA that this lockdown covered the entire country. Stating that this pandemic has affected not only taxi drivers but all daily wage earners as well as private business establishments, the KVC expressed that it would be most hasty and unwise for the association to play out its ultimatum on the streets, endangering the safety and lives of everyone.
KVC pointed out that government of Nagaland and the NGOs have already started providing relief in terms of cash and kind to the poor and needy, including daily wage earners. KVC therefore appealed to all the taxi drivers and taxi owners of the village to comply with the resolution passed on March 24 to observe lockdown in letter and spirit.
