In connection with celebration of “World No Tobacco Day” (WNTD) in Longleng, the Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK)-District Level Centre for Women (DLCW) in collaboration with the district administration, Longleng organised “postal designing competition” to mark the theme of the celebration 2020: “Protecting youth from Industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use”.
According to DIPR report, altogether 47 students from classes 8 to 12 from different schools under Longleng participated in the competition. Henmoi class 10 of Shamakok Mission School Longleng and Shingmei T Phom class 12 of GHSS Longleng were placed in the 1st and 2nd positions respectively. Niamchai class 9 of St. Joseph School and N. Chunri Phom class 9 of Vision Vale School begged 2nd runners up. Certificate, cash prize and gift hampers were given to the best four and while certificate and gift hampers were also given to all the participating students. Competition was held on May 31 and result was declared on June 1.
Meanwhile, the MSK in collaboration with District Task Force (DTF) on BBBP and district administration distributed emergency kit to the quarantine centres, Longleng on June1.
Phek: In Phek, programme was organized by the district administration & District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao) on May 31. Women welfare officer, Vilenuo Kapu urged the youths to avoid the use of tobacco and smoking as it can be fatal to health. MSK Phek requested everyone to follow the necessary guidelines of hygiene and social distancing to keep themselves safe. MSK Phek also asked the public to watch video on “Smokeless tobacco” by Dreamz Unlimited and sponsored by district administration & DLCW-MSK (BBBP), Phek.
