Old Jalukie village banishes attempted rape accused

DIMAPUR, JUN 6 (NPN)

Old Jalukie Village Council (OJVC) has resolved to banish one Iriesibe, accused of attempted rape on a minor girl, from the village for a period of three years with immediate effect.
In an order, OJVC chairman Hainkieng and Old Jalukie village GBs Pausui and Samyibe stated that the resolution was taken at a special meeting of the village council on June 5, 2025. The meeting, attended by presence of elders, clan representatives, community leaders, and council members, deliberated on customary norms and practices.
The accused has been prohibited from entering the village, residing within Old Jalukie jurisdiction, or participating in any form of social, cultural, or religious gatherings of the community during the entire duration of the ban. The accused hails from Ndunglwa village and presently residing at Old Jalukie Sector ‘B’.
They said that decision was made in alignment with customary law, which upholds the protection of
women and children as paramount and recognized the importance of preserving the moral integrity and safety of the village.
Meanwhile, the village council has affirmed full support to the victim and her family, and assured that the community stood with them during their period of trauma and recovery.

JPMO condemns: Jalukie Pumling Mipui Organisation (JPMO) has condemned the alleged attempted rape of a 14-year-old minor girl by one Iriesibe on May 31, 2025.
In a press release, JPMO president Kigum said that such “vile and reprehensible act” was a shameful betrayal of shared humanity and a direct assault on the dignity, safety, and innocence of a child.
JPMO said his act has inflicted deep pain not only upon the survivor and her family but upon the conscience of every right-thinking member of society.
“To violate a child in such a cruel and calculated manner is not only a criminal act but an unforgivable moral outrage,” JPMO said.
Affirming solidarity with the survivor and her family, the organisation said it would never tolerate such acts, never ignore such pain, and never stop demanding justice.
