Apr 7 murder case: ZYON, ZSUN to launch phase-II stir

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, JUN 6 (NPN)

Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) and Zeliang Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) on Friday announced their plan to launch phase-II agitation starting June 10, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a woman in her mid-30s, whose body was found in a forested area near Pimla village under Chümoukedima district on April 7, 2025.
As part of phase-II stir, the two organizations said an indefinite shutter-down would be imposed across Peren district, which would continue until justice was delivered. Announcing this at a press conference at Residency Colony, here, ZYON president, R John Zeliang, said that the decision was made following an emergency meeting held on June 4. The organizations expressed dismay over government’s continued silence, negligence, and inaction despite repeated appeals and ultimatums.
John informed that during a meeting with home commissioner on April 29, two weeks was given to the state government to deliver justice. However, as commissioner sought one month’s time, he said CSOs accepted the request.
John said they were eagerly waiting for the state government’s response, but there was no update or response till date.
He questioned why the state government was irresponsible on the issue and not willing to call them for meeting as assured. “Why no update was given. Are they simply playing with the sentiments of the nagas?” he questioned.
Asked whether they approached deputy chief minister, TR Zeliang, since the incident took place under his assembly constituency, John replied that they tried to approach him but could not meet him personally.
He, however, said that if the state government was really serious on this issue, how many offices do they have to approach to get justice. “Their ignorance is compelling us to go ahead with the agitation. We don’t want public to suffer through the agitation, however the public is ready to face the agitation,” he said.
ZYON warned that CSOs would not be responsible of any untoward incident during the agitation.
Asked about any update from the police, he said police gave information about the arrest of five individuals, including the husband.
John also informed that CSOs would not remain silent on the matter anymore, adding that the excuse of lack of facilities to test DNA and forensic reports was far over.
Meanwhile, ZSUN president, Adaube Hiekha Hau, appealed to the people of Peren to stock up on essential commodities by Monday in view of the proposed second phase of agitation. He also reiterated that indefinite shutter down would continue till justice served.
