Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has said that a joint consultative meeting with six tribal bodies and frontal organizations in Dimapur on July 7, 2020, has unanimously resolved to forgive the state government over Tuensang fiasco provided the public apology was tendered in the press within three days.
A joint statement issued by ENPO president, ENPO general secretary, presidents of– Eastern Nagaland Women Organisatio, Eastern Naga Students Federation, Chang Khulei Setshang, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, Konyak Union, United Sangtam Likhum Pümji, Yimchungrü Tribal Council and Phom Peoples Council secretary said that the meeting was held to deliberate on ENPO’s May 28, 2020 representation to the state government to initiate disciplinary action against the government officers involved in sending a COVID-19 patient along with 168 passengers back to Tuensang from Kohima without waiting for results of their test samples and endangering the lives of many.
After deliberating on the issue, the signatories said the joint consultative meeting on behalf of the public of Eastern Nagaland unanimously resolved that “in all Christian Spirit the ENPO shall choose to ‘forgive’ as appealed by the state cabinet, medical department and medical minister, provided that the state government tender public apology in the press media within three days (i.e., w.e.f. the date of adoption of this resolution).”
In the event of government’s failure to tender public apology, the meeting resolved that ENPO would not participate in any state government’s activities and programmes.
It may be recalled that the state cabinet during its June 29 meeting, decided to send an appeal letter to ENPO to “forgive and forget” on the lapses. For this the cabinet secretary (chief secretary) was to issue the letter, besides another appeal letter by the Health & Family Welfare department.
