Drawing the attention of the state government to erratic power supply, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) urged upon the state government to concentrate on providing uninterrupted power supply.
In a press release Saturday, NPCC president, K Therie, asked the government to at least provide dependable power supply if providing uninterrupted power supply was not possible.
He said that in the present age, people deserved uninterrupted power supply and even if adequate funding was a constraint in the past, it was not an issue at present.
Therie, who was power minister in Congress government, recalled that at his closing term, the power department had planned to improve the transmission and distribution system in Dimapur by projecting an estimate of Rs. 78 crore which was accordingly sanctioned by the centre. Therie opined that presently since there was no issue about load shedding, the erratic power supply may have to do with the transmission and distribution system.
Therie also said there were many overloaded transformers resulting in low voltage output.
He also said field workers were struggling with power lines that have outlived their lifespan. He also expressed sorrow about field workers getting electrocuted from time to time. He said this showed that the system needed review and initiative for corrective measures.
The NPCC president said most of the industries depending on power supply incurred losses due to erratic power supply. He also said life saving machines in hospitals were also adversely affected while many industrial machineries have been damaged due to fluctuations and erratic power supply.
Due to such, he said small or medium industries cannot come up for want of dependable power supply.
Therie maintained that power department was not a secondary department and urged the state government to concentrate on providing uninterrupted power supply as there was no more load shedding due to lack of adequate power generation.
