Expressing dismay over the University Grants Commission (UGS)’s revised guidelines to conduct end semester examinations for all courses throughout India by the end of September 2020, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has urged the state government to request the UGC and Ministry of Human Resource Development to consider the case of Nagaland and allow the Nagaland University to take relevant decision in the interest of the student community.
In a representation addressed to the chief secretary, ANCSU president Vimeyiekho Vitso and general secretary Imnameren N Jamir asserted that holding online exams was not feasible due to poor internet connectivity in Nagaland. ANCSU also said that many students continued to struggle without required gadgets to go for online exams.
Further, the union said that conducting physical mode of examination, considering the current situation of the state, was “no less than putting the entire state at risk.”
ANCSU, therefore, asserted that the Nagaland University should immediately withdraw the exam routines for all courses published on July 16, 2020. ANCSU also requested the state government and the Nagaland University to first prioritize the safety of the colleges and university fraternities before taking any decision for conduct of exams.
Admitting that NU was bound to follow the UGC guidelines/directives, ANCSU, however, said trhat the state government and NU must represent and salvage the student community during these trying times.
