
STINER-TFC, SASRD: NU, Medziphema in collaboration with NTTC, Dimapur organised a three-day training programme on “Banana fibre extraction and handicraft making” at NTTC demonstration hall from July 20 to 22. Training programme was initiated by project in-charge, STINER-TFC, SASRD: NU, Medziphema, professor Akali Sema.
A press release by STINER-TFC, SASRD: NU Medziphema stated that, the training was targeted to aspiring entrepreneurs, where resource persons divided the programme into different sessions. The theoretical sessions covered topics such as, prospects of banana fibre, its marketing opportunities as well as the various challenges faced by this sector in the state. During the practical sessions, participants were given hands-on training for selection and sorting of banana plant, extraction of fibre, processing for quality enhancement and handicraft making. Necessary social distancing protocols were maintained during the entire programme.
Resource persons for the training programme were, Er. Petehetuo Miasalhou, principal, NTTC, Rovisatuo Naprantsu, project manager, Kudatech Creations and Mepuliba Walling, manager, Amity Banana Fibre and Allied products. They were assisted by two artisans from Kudatech Creations.
The introductory session was chaired by Awalo Keppen, assistant manager, NTTC and speech was delivered by Dr. Sentirenla Changkiri, project assistant, STINER-TFC, SASRD: NU, Medziphema.
During the valedictory session, certificates were distributed to all the participants, where vote of thanks was delivered by Rokosieno Zao, project assistant, STINER-TFC, SASRD: NU, Medziphema. A total number of 14 participants were registered and trained during the three-day programme.
