Nagaland NGOs Forum (NNF) has appealed to the state government for enhancement of NGOs registration renewal period from the current two years to five years.
In a representation addressed to the state chief minister, NNF president Dr. Hesheto Y Chishi and general secretary Chenithung Humtsoe asserted that the societies’ registration renewal period should not go along in line with commercial or trade licence system as it was non- profit organisations in nature.
The forum also said that to check and detach non functional NGOs by means of reducing renewal period into two-year period was not a proper mechanism and unfair to all the functional NGOs that were assisting government in multifarious activities in their best possible effort.
Due to the limited period of renewal year, NNF said the functional NGOs faced certain legality constrains.
NNF has, therefore, appealed to the chief minister to initiate to deliberate the issue in the ensuing Assembly session and Legislate an Act to enhance the NGO registration renewal period to five years instead.
