In the backdrop of the July 7 home department’s office memo requiring all State government employees to furnish details about their family members or relatives in underground groups through self-declaration, Nagaland Secretariat Service Association (NSSA) and Nagaland Civil Service Association (NCSA) have clarified that as government employees they would comply with the directive.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, NSSA president Chubsangla Longkumer however expressed apprehension as, according to him, there was no clarity in the memo regarding the purpose of gathering such information.
Pointing out that the memo had directed AHoDs) and HODs to ask all their employees to submit the information, she said the employees were clueless about the purpose for the declaration as this was possibly the first-of-its-kind exercise. Hence, she said they were little apprehensive.
When contacted, NCSA president Honje Konyak informed this correspondent that as government servants with service rules, they were bounded to abide by any order, notification or office memorandum.
To queries whether NCS had any apprehension over the directive, he vaguely said the public must examine and see what would be best for the society.
The memorandum has attracted criticism from various groups, even as the Joint Tribal Hoho termed it as not viable at the present situation unless a final settlement was arrived at, and appealed to the government to withdraw the directive.
