Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) has appreciated the “political sagacity” of both the Naga political groups (NPGs) and the Interlocutor, Government of India, in working out “an honourable and acceptable political arrangement to meet the political aspirations and urges of the Naga people.”
In a press release, NGBF president Shalem Konyak, general secretary Shikuto Zalipu and media secretary Akhu Naga recalled the historic and significant statement of the Prime Minister on August 3, 2015, after signing the Framework Agreement with NSCN (I-M) in New Delhi where he said that the “agreement was historical and a milestone in the Naga political struggle.” NGBF added that the prime minister’s voice represents the voice and opinion of the government of India.
The federation also stated that the signing of the Preamble (Agreed Position) on November 17, 2017, between the Working Committee of seven Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) recognised the political and historical rights of the Nagas “to self determine their future in consonance with their distinct identity.
NGBF has, therefore, urged all the signatories of the agreements to “give sanctity to the historic documents.”
While drawing up the agreements, the federation hoped that all entities have done “in-depth practical evaluation of various aspects of the unresolved political problem.”
Expressing appreciation and gratitude to the signatories, the NGBF maintained that the representatives of all NPGs have put in their utmost effort while drawing up ‘Framework Agreement’ in 2015 and ‘Agreed Position’ in 2017 in the best interest of the Naga people and the Government of India.
“It is time to leave the past behind and concentrate on the present to design and invent a new Nagaland and other Naga areas,” NGBF stated.
