
Along with the rest of the country, “The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” or “The National Unity Day” in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel, the first deputy prime minister and home minister of independent India was observed in Nagaland on October 31.
PHQ Kohima: In Kohima, the occasion was held at PHQ with DGP Nagaland, T. John Longkumer as the chief host on October 31.
According to DIPR report, in his address DGP said, Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel played an important role in the country’s struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united and independent India. DGP said, the Police forces in India including the CPO and Assam Rifles have contributed immensely towards various internal security challenges.
They were an integral part of the national security and instrumental in maintaining unity of the country. It was in recognition of the galvanizing role played by the police, that the period October 21 to 31 has been declared as “Police Flag Day” which culminated with the observance of the “National Unity Day”. DGP also administered the pledge of unity and called upon to gathering to renew their oaths to uphold the integrity and security of the Nation.
Noklak: In Noklak, a mini marathon race was organised by Police department, where superintendent of Police, Noklak, Dr. Pritpal Kaur advised the students and youths to set aim in life, work hard to achieve it and also encouraged them to contribute to the society in whatever possible ways. She congratulated all the winners’ and participants of the mini marathon race and gave away the cash prizes and certificates to the winners and participants.
In boys category, Puto, Sangtsoi and Ngon bag first, second and third position respectively where Monglon S and Mutchiu S got consolidation prize.
Under Girls category, Tsuchoi T, Songmo P and Niansai got first, second and third positions respectively and Thongkoi T and Tongzen H got consolation prizes. SDO (C) Noklak, C. Phuniang administrated the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge in the programme chaired by additional SP Noklak, Ngou Khiam.
The mini marathon race started at Govt. Middle School Junction (Penshe Sector) to GHSS Noklak (High School B Sector) where the prize distribution ceremony was held. Participants in the unity run/mini marathon race comprised of students, teachers, Red Cross Society, Medical department, Khiamniungan Baptist Churches Association, Police department, district administration and well-wishers.
DMI SJGS: DMI St. Joseph Global School (SJGS) observed organized various interesting activities online for class V-VI online pledge, for VII-VIII, essay writing and for class IX-X, poster making on the theme.
A press release by DMI SJGS stated that, Pali K Aomi coordinated the entire online programme. Objective of this observation was to reaffirm the inherent strength and resilience of the nation by instilling in the young minds the thirst for ageless ideals.
Unity College Dimapur: In Unity College Dimapur, the IQAC organised a programme, where college principal, Dr. Lichumo Enie delivered short speech.
A press release by IQAC coordinator Dr. Adani Ngullie stated that Dr. Lichumo Enie, mentioned the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in building a modern and unified India. He further reminded the participants to take a pledge to give the first priority to national unity and integration which was the bond and togetherness between people regardless of their caste, creed, religion or gender.
A short speech was also delivered by UCSU (BA 3rd semester D) magazine and information secretary Kewithunbo Nchang. A poem was recited over by Jyoti Dimasa, M. Com 3rd semester. Dr. Adani Ngullie led in the pledge taking at the end of the programme. Teaching faculty, non-teaching staff and students attended the online programme chaired by assistant professor, Commerce, Vandana Ladha.
Tetso College: Tetso College celebrated the day with Brig. (Dr) Jeewan Rajpurohit as guest speaker, wherein he called upon the virtual gathering to renew oaths to uphold the integrity and security of the nation.
A press release by Tetso College stated that, Brig. (Dr) Jeewan Rajpurohit spoke about the rich tradition of India of which unity has been the spirit and encouraged young generation to be dreamers, thinkers and doers. While delivering a message of unity and oneness Brig. (Dr) Rajpurohit also shared his personal experiences with Northeast and Nagaland.
HoD of Political Science Dr. Rimmei Longmei, Tetso College, speaking on the topic, “why national unity day” made the audience to understand the importance of the challenges of nation-building in India and the process of “national unity and integration”.
He urged all to unite and extend unconditional support to preserve the unity, integrity and security of this great nation.
Earlier, welcome address was given by Dr. Aniruddha Babar. Unity pledge and vote of thanks was delivered by Yaoreiphy Awungshi, assistant professor, Political Science, Tetso College. Winners of short patriotic essay in the writing competition were presented by Kezhavikho Lhoushe (1st), Mosa S. Sangtam (2nd) and Abeni Yanthan (3rd). Keneisedeu Mezhu and Keren Kent bagged consolation prizes.
