
A first of its kind in the state, the conferring of unit citation and unit appreciation to Assam Units & Territorial Army Battalion was held at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on November 3.
A press release by PRO to governor of Nagaland stated that, in his address, governor R.N. Ravi felicitated the Assam Rifles and said they have provided yeoman service all over the country, carrying responsibilities for almost 200 years. “In honouring you, I feel honoured because the whole country is very proud of you” the governor said.
Ravi said during British time, they performed exceedingly well in keeping Japanese force at bay and defended Kohima. He lauded the Assam Rifles for their successful missions not only in counter insurgencies but also in containing Chinese expansion in border areas.
At the beginning of creation of Nagaland, Ravi mentioned the important role played by the Assam Rifles in maintaining peace, law and order as there were not much police personnel. He also said they have been providing selfless service in times of natural calamities.
3 (Naga Hill) Bn AR was conferred unit citation and 22 AR, 36 AR, 41 AR, 45 AR and 164 TA Bn were conferred unit appreciation. Wife of governor, Laxmi Ravi, senior bureaucrats, Assam Rifles, Police and central agencies officials attended the programme.
