2nd phase COVID-19 vaccine dry run across Nagaland

The second phase of nationwide COVID-19 vaccination dry run was conducted across the state on January 8. Dry run is a practice session, in which a sample number of beneficiaries will go through a mock immunisation process to test the linkage between planning and implementation and identifying the challenges.

Mon: The exercise was conducted at District Hospital, Tizit PHC and Aboi CHC.  Following the guidelines, the session site consisted of three rooms; waiting, vaccination and observation rooms with each vaccination team consisting of five members including vaccinator officer, vaccination officer for verification, mobilizing for vaccination, for portal uploading and for observation. During the exercise, 25 health workers got dummy vaccines at each site, to test the mechanisms and reveal possible gaps in the system ahead of the actual COVID vaccination drive.

Phek: In Phek, the exercise was successfully conducted at District Hospital Phek, Community Health Centre (CHC) Pfutsero, CHC Meluri & Primary Health Centre (PHC) Chizami. Objective of the dry run was to assess operational feasibility in use of Co-WIN application in field environment and also to identify challenges prior to actual implementation.

The four model sites were set up as per operational guidelines given by health ministry consisting of waiting area, vaccination and observation rooms, hand washing site with separate entry and exit. 25 beneficiaries were pre-registered in dummy portal for each session sites which was successfully uploaded in the portal and four vaccination officers were deployed in the drive. The dry run exercise was carried out under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Phek, Dr. Vibeituonuo Mepfuo and attended by IAS SDO Phek, Bhavani Sri, representatives from education department, Social Welfare and DIPR among others.

Mokokchung: Dry Run for COVID-19 vaccination was conducted at three sites in Mokokchung district headed by Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mokokchung Dr. R. Chubala Aier and team, with Dr. Collin as observer from the state.

A press release from NRHM, Mokokchung district programme management unit stated that the purpose of the dry run was to check the district planned operations, assess operational feasibility of using Co-WIN in field environment, implementation and reporting mechanism, identify challenges and to test the preparedness for the actual day of vaccination from the point of entry to exit.

Wokha: Wokha District COVID-19 Immunization Committee (WDCIC) conducted dry run for COVID-19 vaccination at District Hospital Wokha, Urban Primary Health Centre and Community Health Care Centre (CHC) Sanis. According to DIPR report, 75 health care workers, 25 each from the three centre participated for the dry run as the first batch beneficiaries.

Wokha District COVID-19 immunisation led by ADC Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao, CMO Wokha Dr. TW Tungoe, MS Wokha Dr. Tumchobeni, district immunization programmed officer Dr. Khelito Zhemomi witnessed the dry run programme along with state level observer Dr. Longri Kichu, UNICEF, Department of Health & Family Welfare (DHFW) and IDPS, DHFW, Dr. Mhecucro Mero.

The state level observer while commenting on Wokha district preparedness on vaccination expressed confidence that the district was doing well and prepared. CMO, Wokha Dr. T.W. Tungoe said that for the success of the vaccination the district had set up a committee and would be vaccinated phase wise, first phase health care workers, second phase frontline workers and third phase would include vaccination of people who are 50 years and above and the last phase for those below the age of 50 years with co-morbidities.

Longleng: Longleng district also conducted the exercise at District Hospital, Yachem PHC and Tamlu PHC, in the presence of district administration and Social Welfare Department.  Before starting the session, DPO (RCH/UIP), Dr. Imnameren Phom delivered a short welcome address and gave a brief clarification on the guidelines to the health workers and the beneficiaries. 

The session site consisted of a waiting area, vaccination and observation rooms, hand washing areas and separate entry and exit points. A total of 25 beneficiaries registered beforehand in the dummy portal for each session sites, which were successfully uploaded in the portal. Four vaccination officers were deployed in the session site. 

The dry run exercises were conducted under the guidance of Dr. Imnameren Phom and Jr.Surgeon District Hospital, Dr. Khyothungo Yanthan.
