
The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to suspend Wapher Village Council (WVC) following the November 18 incident at Thongtsu village under Noklak district.
Sources informed that the cabinet during its meeting held Wednesday decided to suspend WVC for sometime. It has also decided to depute a standing committee to resolve the issue amicably.

The cabinet also deliberated on Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) commission report and decided to send it to the departments of home and law and justice. After it is okayed, it was decided that the commission report will be taken to Nagaland Legislative Assembly for adoption.
On Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) demand on NSSB, the government was likely to invite ENSF for further discussion.
Meanwhile it was learnt that chief minister Neiphiu Rio and some of his cabinet colleagues were scheduled to meet the seven NNPGs on November 27 at 3 pm at Chumukedima police headquarter.
ENPO condemns Thongtso incident
DIMAPUR, NOV 25 (NPN): Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has condemned the November 18, 2020 Thongtso village incident in which one person was killed, another person was injured and some houses were torched by unidentified miscreants.
In view of prevailing tense situation, the ENPO through its media cell has appealed to all concerned public of the area to cooperate with the district police force in bringing the perpetrators to book and take necessary action per the law.
ENPO reminded that as per its standing resolution any disputes, misunderstandings within Eastern Nagaland people (within six tribes) “shall be localized within the parties involved and resolved within the concerned group through peaceful dialogue”. ENPO said the resolution was adopted on December 18, 2019 during the celebration of ENPO peace and unity foundation at Tuensang HQ.
It said that November 18 incident was contrary to the said resolution, which was adopted based on “popular public prayer and demand for peace and tranquility within ENPO jurisdiction.”
Meanwhile, ENPO has requested all responsible “not to communalize the issue” and resolve the issue in line with the December 18, 2019 resolution.
It may be recalled that in a pre-dawn attack on Thongtsou village on November 18, some unidentified miscreants killed one person, injured another person and torched several houses.
A high level team led by the DGP Nagaland after assessing the situation constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has already begun probe in to the incident. It was learnt that that certain people involved in the incident have been identified.
