Indigenous wild fruits’ farm dedicated at Changtongya

A farm that grows indigenous wild fruits was inaugurated by Aruju Tsuki bachelor’s dormitory at Changtongya village, Mokokchung on January 6.

A press release by Aruju Tsuki bachelor’s dormitory, Changtongya village stated that, the farm with more than 54 plants aimed at conserving rare endangered wild fruits which would benefit not only the environment but also researches in the future. The farm also grows medicinal plants that are used by the Ao Nagas locally.

The same group has built a morung, where ancient artefacts of the Ao Nagas are kept as a way to preserve their culture and tradition.

Founder & director, Sentirenba added that some plants had died as a result of replanting them in a clean field instead of a forest and some were destroyed by animals. Therefore, the group would replace and replant them and expected to be untertaken by 2021.

It may be noted that the farm was cultivated without any assistance from the government so as to promote self reliance in the society.
