
Project SPATIAL under Can Youth supported by Child Aid Network formed “child parliament” for students of Government High School, Sarbura on November 25.
A press release by Can Youth stated that, project coordinator, project SPATIAL, Lairing Dau Jigdung gave a brief concept on the purpose of formation of child parliament explained that it was a platform for students at school, where they can express their emotions fearlessly and work with their understanding of right to self.
He also shared that it focuses on ensuring quality education by creating a child-friendly situation in school together with teachers, parents, and stakeholders.
Lairing pointed out that child parliament would be effective in teaching and emphasised where students could play an important role in maintaining the school sanitation, carrying out activities and assisting teachers in various ways.
He also illustrated on the objectives of child parliament where the students would become sensitive to school related issues and linking school management to solution, ensure students participation in order to create a better educational environment in the school, etc.
Meanwhile, the team along with the headmistress and students had a discussion on formation of the group and elected for various posts to be introduced in child parliament.
Later, students nominated for different posts were Chenibemo Lotha as president, Methila Norah as prime minister followed by cabinet minister.
It may be noted that Can Youth is planning to launch child parliament in different Government Schools under Dimapur.
