
Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) Tuesday informed that the Phase-II democratic indefinite agitation passed off peacefully and successfully.
In a press release, ENSF president Sepili L Sangtam said that boycotting of statehood celebration, locking down of government offices and restricting the movement of government registered vehicles by the six federating units at respective headquarters passed off peacefully.
ENSF informed that one vehicle was seized Tuesday for not respecting its directives. It stated that those seized vehicles would be released only when their demands were fulfilled.
The federation has directed all the six federating units that the second phase of day-two indefinite democratic agitation would remain the same and as per the directives issued.
ENSF has expressed gratitude to the six federating units for their continued support and cooperation in all the endeavours undertaken by the federation and also to the Eastern brethren for expressing solidarity with the cause.
Meanwhile, reports received from all the districts of eastern Nagaland stated that the agitation was successful.
In Kiphire, the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) as per ENSF directive boycotted the statehood celebration in the district.
USSC volunteers were seen preventing the celebration at public ground Kiphire and restricting movement of government vehicles at Kiphire town. As per USSC official, one government vehicle was seized for violating ENSF directives. However, no untoward incident was reported. USSC said agitation would continue till the government meets the demand of ENSF.
In Noklak district, the Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) said they successfully imposed indefinite democratic agitation by boycotting statehood day celebration and locking up the government offices at Noklak District HQ, Nokhu EAC, Panso EAC and Thonoknyu SDO (Civil) Hq. KSU also restricted movement of government registered vehicles. However, district administration, police, medical and central agencies were exempted.
The agitation began at 6am and implemented all the directives of ENSF and no untoward incident occurred within the district, KSU media cell informed.
Responding to ENSF and KSU directive, the Pathso Range Students Union (PRSU) enforced the agitation within its jurisdiction. Volunteers from Pathso, Ekhao, Pathso Nokeng and Pathso Town student bodies participated in the agitation. The agitation commenced at 6 am at Panso EAC HQ by displaying placards. The national flag was not hoisted and no activities was organised relating to the Statehood Day, informed PRSU assistant information & publicity secretary Khumong T.
In Longleng district, the Phom Students’ Conference (PLP) succesfully enforced the phase-II agitation at Longleng district HQ and Tamlu Subdivision on December 1.
In a press release, PLP president A Mane Phom and assistant general secretary Amos Phom said that the agitation passed off peacefully and no untoward incident occurred within the district.
They said that agitation would continue until demands were fulfilled and justice delivered to Eastern people.
In Mon district, the Konyak Students Union (KSU) strictly enforced the phase-II indefiniate democratic agitation.
In a press release, KSU president Bumang Phaiba and assistant general secretary Nokpho Wangsha stated that in the entire district the union did not allow hoisting of flag. KSU affirmed to extend continued support and cooperation to the federation until demands were fulfilled by the state government.
In Tuensang, the Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA) imposed agitation starting from 6am on Tuesday under its jurisdiction.
In a press release, YAA president Achung Jangleh said that union officials along with volunteers successfully boycotted statehood day celebration at its Shamator HQ. and Pungro HQ, but no untoward incident occurred. YAA also said it would continue to impose indefinite agitation in a peaceful democratic manner until justice was served.
