National road safety month observed in the state

On the occasion of National Road Safety month, various activities were conducted in Phek and Dimapur on January 25.

Phek Police and NHIDCL: Police department Phek in collaboration with NHIDCL organised the 32nd National Road Safety month at Phek town on January 25m, where a walkathon marked the occasion to spread the awareness of safe driving and measures to reduce vehicle accidents in the district.

A press release by SP Phek office stated that public leaders, DTO officials, Police, NCCs and students participated in the event. SP Phek Vesupra Kezo in his keynote address said the major causes of accidents were over speeding, wrong lane and drunken driving. He further stated that “a good Samaritan” who renders help to an injured person in distress on the road was protected under law and also urged everyone to be a good samaritan in order to save lives. Several traffic policemen were awarded on the occasion. 

Phek police also acknowledged the Kutsapo Village Council with certificate of appreciation for displaying yeoman service by retrieving a fallen truck through mass participation of the villagers using traditional ropes and equipments. Quiz competition was held and winners were given cash prizes. A pledge to practice safe driving by all participants was taken at the end of the programme. Addl SP Phek, R.T. Chang chaired the meeting and ASI Zavekho Vero (RO) deliberated on the MV Act, traffic rules and penalties. Pastor PBC, Veruyoyi invoked God’s blessing and Veluno Venuh presented a special song. 

NHIDCL, PMU-Dimapur: National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), PMU-Dimapur conducted a free eye camp on the occasion of “national road safety month” on January 25 at District Hospital, Peren (DHP). 

A press release by Zeme Youth Organisation (N) (ZYO-N) assistant general secretary Keyi Sephe stated that, keeping in mind the all-round development and safety towards its employees for efficient and effective working, the NHIDCL held the eye camp for all the project drivers, plant operators etc. working in the tough and adverse situation. Specialized team of doctors from District Hospital, Peren took part in the camp.
