Rio and Kense ancestral lineage event held

Marking the declaration of ancestral lineage between the Rio and Kense clans of Tuophema village, a programme was held on January 29 at Tuophezou Dahou.

A release from organising committee member, Kechangulie Kense stated that following an intensive research by the elders, the ancestral lineage between the clans was validated, who descended from the same genealogy.
Gracing the occasion, Zhaleo Rio, advisor Sericulture, Excise, Minority Affairs shared on the importance of knowing one’s roots for a greater understanding and embracing one’s unique cultural values and traditions.
While observing the dying culture of reading habits, curiosity in learning one’s roots among the younger generation with the invasion of technology, Rio urged the young generation to learn about their roots and have a sense of pride.
He also stressed on the need to translate the rich oral history in the form of books to enable the young generation to have a better understanding of their ancestral roots and implied on the importance of knowing and speaking in one’s own dialect, which he noted is dwindling among the people.
Rio further maintained that speaking in one’s dialect helps connect with one another and promote better understanding of history and upbringing. He advised parents and elders to teach and speak to their children in their own dialect.
Earlier, elderly blessings were pronounced by Keviza Kense and Khrünyü-o Rio while history of ancestral lineage was shared by Salie-o Kense.
