Balipara Foundation seeks to push agro ecology project

Assam-based non profitable organisation– Balipara Foundation has expressed its desire to start a long-term agro-ecology project to augment agro-economic assets in Nagaland.

Interacting with Nagaland Post, Balipara Foundation trustee Ranjit Borthakur said the project would be targeted at the villages “with the community, owned by the community, for the community and of the community”.

Borthakur, who is also chairman of Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) North East Advisory Council (NEAC) and executive chairman of Royal Multisport Pvt Ltd, the company that owns Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals, visited Nagaland along with two other officials from FICCI and Assam Investment Advisory Society.

He explained that the objective of their visit was to sensitise stakeholders about FICCI. Observing that Nagaland had a stable administration and leadership, he said, as a follow-up to the FICCI connectivity summit held in 2017, the trade body wanted to help Nagaland in all its economic endeavours.

According to the Balipara Foundation’s trustee, Nagaland missed industrial and technology revolution, pointing out that the new revolution would be about ecology and in which Nagaland had the assets to take advantage of by organising itself in a much better way.

He remarked that Nagaland could be the hub of hospitality, tourism and agro-ecology industry.

Borthakur said former chief secretary Temjen Toy was in touch with FICCI and discussing on “new form of employment” even before assuming the charge as the chief secretary, and regretted that he had passed away too early.

Since Toy was his mentor, he said he visited the grave of the former chief secretary and paid his tribute, besides meeting parents and family members of Toy, assuring them to extend any support, if required.

The visiting FICCI team also met chief secretary Jane Alam and had a cordial discussion in continuation of the talks since the time of Toy.

Borthakur said the team was happy meeting the chief secretary, adding that the latter was very supportive.

It was also learnt that the team had proposed to the state government to host the South East Asia farmers centric Agri convention in the state. The state government was yet to respond to the proposal.

NEAC director Biswajit Chakrabarty, Assam Investment Advisory Board executive operating officer Nitu Kumar Kalita and Zynorique Initiative Society director Richard Belho were also present during the interaction with Alam.

Proposal to open cricket academy
As Rajasthan Royal (RR) co-owner, Borthakur said he wanted to see the possibility of opening a cricket academy in the State, adding he would be meeting Nagaland Cricket Association for discussion in this regard and visit the cricket stadium at Sovima, Dimapur.
Referring to Khrievitso Kense, the leg spinner from Nagaland, Borthakur said he was impressed by Kense’s performance during a match in Nagpur. He also met the parents of Kense.
