Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) has strongly condemned the alleged abduction and brutal assault on dobashi of Khezhakeno village T Ngolo Koza, who hails from Chakhesang tribe, from Chida resort by a mob from Tungjoy village in Manipur on February 15 while he was on official duty.
Terming the “cowardice” act as a direct challenge to Chakhesang community and the Government of Nagaland, front’s president Lhuvesayi Lohe and general secretary Nyitso Therie in a press release demanded that the State government should expedite the investigation and arrest and punish the culprits.
Voicing their anguish, they also warned of not tolerating such “inhuman behaviour” on any member of Chakhesang community.
CYF claimed that the incident occurred well within the demarcated Nagaland State boundary based on “watershed principle” followed in the survey by Captain Butler and Dr Gordon in 1872 under British-India administration, which was reiterated by subsequent cases.
The organisation referred to political case no. 41 of 1933 of Naga Hills deputy commissioner JH Hutton and Manipur State Darbar president GP Steward that affirmed the inter-district-State boundary as notified in 1925, whereby the inter-district-State boundary coincides with the two villages’ boundary.
It also referred to political case no. 6 of 1950 Khezhakeno (Naga Hills)–Vs-Tungjoy (Manipur State) as decided by then Naga Hills deputy commissioner and Manipur State deputy commissioner, where Tungjoy villagers were ordered not to violate watershed demarcation.
Again, CYF said two chief secretaries of Nagaland and Manipur had on May 29, 1982 re-affirmed “As far as the State boundary is concerned, the 1872 survey made by Mr. Butler and Dr. Gordon is final and inalienable and state boundary can be altered by an act of Parliament only and therefore, there is no question of opening any discussion on the State boundary.”
Therefore, the front asserted that T Ngolo Koza, who was deputed by Khezhakeno extra assistant commission, had every right to perform his official duty well within his designated jurisdiction.
