A technology awareness-cum-animal health camp and tribal sub-plan (TSP) input distribution was organised at Dorpa village, Kimin, Papum Pare district, Arunachal Pradesh on March 3.
The programme was jointly organised by ICAR-National Research Centre (ICAR-NRC) on Mithun, Nagaland and Arunachal Mithun and Yak Conservation Mission, department of animal husbandry, veterinary and dairy development, government of Arunachal Pradesh.
In her address, guest of honor, Zilla Parishad member, Kimin, Bameng Yayu appreciated the efforts of ICAR-NRC on Mithun for collaborating with the state department in their efforts to conserve and preserve Mithun and extended cooperation from the Panchayat in the missions endeavour.
Chief guest, Zilla Parishad chaiperson, Papum Pare, Chukhu Bablu also emphasised on how imperative it was to preserve the socio-cultural value of Mithun in the tribal tradition considering its importance.
Meanwhile, chief technical officer, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr. Kezhavituo Vupru highlighted the purpose of the programme and stressed on how over the years the institute through its TSP had committed to uplift Mithun farmers by advocating them to adopt semi-intensive Mithun rearing system as an alternative to the traditional rearing system.
Earlier, the camp began with vaccination of 58 Mithuns against, followed by a Mithun competition to adjudge the best Mithun under different categories. Scientist from ICAR-NRC on Mithun and state veterinary department officials were deputised to judge the animals based on various morphological and behavioural characters.
The formal session began with an address by mission director, AMYC, Dept. AH, Vety. & dairy development, Dr. Taba Heli. The programme was coordinated by CTO Dr. Kezhavituo Vupru and attended by scientists of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland Dr. Vikram R and Sh. Kamni Paia Biam.
Later, barbed wires, CGI sheet, ear tags, ear applicator, bags, gumboots, raincoats and caps were distributed to the Mithun Farmers Club Lora Top Kimin as part of the institute’s initiative to popularise semi-intensive Mithun farming as well as medicines and mineral mixtures for Mithun welfare.
The programme was attended by department officials of the state veterinary department, ADC and 258 farmers from various villages, Kimin circle.
