Chi Ponghoa landowner on shifting of medical college Mon site

The controversy over the site for upcoming medical college in Mon district is seemingly refusing to fade away.

Even as the State government on March 16 announced finalising a new site for the medical college in Mon district, landowner from Chi Ponghoa, Chi Village Council (CVC) and stakeholders have now expressed dissatisfaction over shifting of the site as dispute and misunderstanding between the landowner and the council and Chi Landowners’ Association had been cleared.

In a press release, landowner Gopang Konyak claimed that he had approached minister in-charge of Mon Paiwang konyak on March 16 at Mon town along with Chi Village Council chairman, Chi Landowners’ Association representative, Chi GB Goklem Konyak, Manto Konyak, Leangha union president Mon town Wangshok Konyak.

But, he alleged, that the minister in-charge was unwilling to have any interaction and the meeting was not possible as his schedule was not made available to them.

Gopang said they were surprised and shocked to learn about the sudden change of the upcoming medical college’s location to Chah-Yo from Chi Ponghoa from the same minister through print media without even having any proper discussion with him, Chi Village Council and Chi Landowners’ Association and without any prior information about the new location.

After all the inauguration and approval of site at Chi Ponghoa, he pointed out that 30 acres of land was given in the presence of Union health & family welfare (H&FW) minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, chief minister Nephiu Rio and State H&FW minister Pangnyu Phom along with KU, KNSK and KSU leaders and Mon deputy commissioner.

Hence, Gopang said he and Chi Village Council still did not understand whether the approval of medical college in Mon was still for Chi Ponghoa or elsewhere.
