Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio called on Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank here on Friday and discussed about setting up an Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Nagaland and also about implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Taking to twitter, Rio said he met with Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and held fruitful discussion regarding setting-up of IISER and implementation of NEP 2020 in Nagaland. “Grateful to him for his support & valuable inputs,” he tweeted.
The official twitter handle of the Education ministry also tweeted that Dr. Pokhriyal and Neiphiu Rio discussed about setting up of IISER and implementation of NEP 2020 in the State.
Currently, there are seven institutes– IISER Kolkata, IISER Pune, IISER Mohali, IISER Bhopal, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, IISER Tirupati and IISER Berhampur.
The IISERs have been built to provide education in the science stream along with research facilities at undergraduate level. All of them have been declared ‘Institutes of National Importance’.
It may be mentioned that the Centre in 2016 had decided to setup IISER in Nagaland.
