Capital College of Higher Education (CCHE) Kohima held its annual literary day-cum-award ceremony under the theme “unmasking the mask” with assistant professor, Don Bosco College Dr. Adenuo Shirat Luikham as keynote speaker on April 23. The event was jointly organised by CCHE department of English and literary cell.
A press release by CCHE stated that due to the surge in COVID-19 cases and while maintaining the SOPs, the event was held in a blended manner where participants of the programme attended the event physically and the rest of the student community attended the event via zoom.
The annual literary event 2021 which commenced on March 23 witnessed a mixture of both real time and virtual competitions.
Speaker, Dr. Luikham said that the theme, “unmasking the mask” was relevant to the present times and echoed the role of literature in the society.
Quoting Shakespeare’s “all the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players”, she opined that humans wore different masks to navigate through the ups and downs of life and literature played the role of “unmasking the mask”.
She stated that literature shouldered the responsibility to peel away the hidden layers, subject matters and issues which were considered as taboo or shameful to bring up in social settings.
Earlier, welcome note was delivered by principal, Dr. Zokho Venuh; introductory note by HoD, department of English, Tatongkala Lemtur and Rhovelu Soho and Leiying Konyak were masters of ceremony.
Winners of the competition included Bentakum C. Chang (poetry), Roupfuzhano Whiso (essay), Sapna Dorgi (short story), Bendangjenba (painting) and Rhovelu Soho (role play). 6th Semesters production “made in pandemic” was adjudged the winner of the short film category with Senulu Tetseo as best actress, P. Honka Konyak as best actor and Thujopalu Venuh as best supporting actor.
