Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kohima in association with State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland and National Institute of Agriculture Extension Management (MANAGE) Hyderabad, organised a week long skill training for rural youth (STRY) on “organic farming” at KVK Kohima and “organic production of fruits and vegetables” at Phenwenyu village from April 28.
A press release by senior scientist and head, KVK Kohima, Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu stated that on the inaugural day, introduction and principles of organic farming, vermicomposting and organic pest management on summer crops were topics presented during the training on organic farming.
Resource persons were SMS (agronomy) & course director Puchono Kweho, ACTO (soil science) Zhiete and SMS (plant protection) Eliseni Tsopoe.
Earlier, the inaugural programme was chaired by ACTO (plant protection) K. Michael Pienyu and Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu delivered the key note address.
In the other training, ACTO (horticulture) & course director Khekali Sema and SMS (plant protection), Eliseni Tsopoe dwelt on scope and importance of organic production of fruits & vegetables, scientific guidelines for establishment of new orchard, nursery techniques for vegetable cultivation and integrated pest management in vegetable crops.
The technical session was chaired by KVK Kohima, technical officer Dr. Sesenlo Kath.
Altogether, 30 rural youths from Tesophenyu, Ziphenyu and Phenwenyu villages would benefit from these skill trainings.
