IAS selection issue: RPP backs govt employee assns

DIMAPUR, JUN 7 (NPN)

Rising People’s Party (RPP) has extended its support to the concern raised by government employee unions over the state government’s “attempt to facilitate entry of backdoor-appointed individuals into the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre.”
In a press release, RPP urged the NDPP-BJP coalition to “at least spare the IAS from backdoor entry.”
RPP said inducting “tom, dick and harry into the IAS through backdoor” bypassing all government rules and norms was the “fruit of an oppositionless government.”
The party state that an ex-cadre meant a temporary/arbitrarily appointed employee of the state government differentiating them from cadre posts/employees who have been appointed through normal routes such as NPSC, etc.
Stating that an ex-cadre was also a backdoor appointee in many cases, RPP has, therefore, asserted the issue raised by CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA, and NF&ASA was “very serious.”
RPP maintained that several years back, the same government set a precedent when an officer appointed through backdoor was inducted into the IAS.
At that time, RPP said there was no hue and cry because the general public was unaware, and also because of the then oppositionless government which was in power.
However, since the issue was in public domain, the RPP has requested CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA, and NF&ASA to reveal the name of the particular officer/IAS candidate who it appeared was particularly favoured by the political establishment. RPP also sought clarification whether the particular candidate was a backdoor appointee as far as his/her entry point into the service was concerned.
RPP alleged that the latest controversy was “a prime example of how manipulative an oppositionless government can be.”
RPP said NDPP-BJP coalition “perhaps” felt it could forge ahead with its “insidious agenda”, but the manner in which CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA, and NF&ASA stiffly opposed the government on the issue was a step in the right direction.
RPP affirmed to continue to extend its support to CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA, and NF&ASA, and ensure that unqualified and undeserving candidates did not pollute the system.
Recently, the Confederation of All Nagaland State Service Employees’ Association (CANSSEA), Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Association (FONSESA), Nagaland Secretariat Services Association (NSSA), and Nagaland Finance & Accounts Services Association (NF&ASA) raised the issue and demanded “an immediate correction of this misstep”. The associations urged the government to reinstate strict merit-based eligibility criteria and cancel all actions taken to favour non-meritorious entrants. Failing which, the associations warned that they reserved the right to pursue appropriate democratic means of protest and legal recourse.
