State Covid caseload crosses 14,000-mark; 3 more deaths

Nagaland’s total caseload breached the 14000 mark on Saturday after 158 fresh Covid-19 positive cases were reported from across the State while three more deaths were recorded.

Of the fresh cases, Dimapur reported the highest at 110, Kohima- 39, Mokokchung- 6 and one each in Mon, Wokha and Longleng, taking the total caseload to 14134. With this the active cases also surged to 1353.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 107 after Dimapur reported two more Covid fatalities and another death in Mon.

Is lockdown inevitable in Dimapur, Kohima? In its weekly bulletin issued on Saturday, the state Health & Family Welfare department expressed concern over the exponentially high weekly sample positivity rate recorded in Dimapur at 37% and 18% in Kohima.

It may be mentioned that the Centre had drafted a proposal to impose a complete lockdown in almost 150 districts across the country with a positivity rate of over 15%, in order to break the chain of transmission.

In another advisory, the Centre directed all states to go for intensive and local containment measures in districts with a high number of COVID-19 cases to check the spread of the viral disease.

Further, adding up to the tally, Health department mentioned that from April 17 to 29, 833 samples were tested from Dimapur Airport and 449 passengers were found to be positive with a positivity rate of 54%. “People tested positive at arrival are likely to have got the infection before boarding the plane,” the department stated. The department observed that unlike the previous year, there has been an increase in symptomatic cases among positive cases.
