Discipleship Bible College (DBC) observed its 40th freshers with minister for higher and technical education and tribal affairs, Temjen Imna Along as guest of honour, here on Friday, at its college premises.
Minister Along in his speech urged the church to be builders and not to institutionalise it.
He lamented that the church had been so institutionalised that it was “no more a giver of enlightenment to the hopeless.”
In this regard, he called upon the church to introspect and to reach out to the downtrodden.
Along stated that although church buildings have become larger, the life of people in Nagaland had become worst and all were to be blamed including politicians who were not interested in making policies to uplift the people.
The minister also called upon the freshers to seek the Lord and to live by grace for they had one life to live, work hard and aspire to inspire.
Addressing the gather, Along said that people were surrounded by social evils, hypocrisy and surrounded with the matter of the state where governance was minimal and government was maximum.
Pointing out that the state was at “sorry state of affairs,” the minister expounded that it had more NGOs and unions than government departments and the policy of the government was described and inspired not by the need of the people but by recession of demands that made by the union and NGOs.
Meanwhile, he encouraged the gathering to work hard, focus, dedicated and determine to be the service of faith.
At the programme, invocation was proposed by associate professor, Dr. Teka, welcome address by chairman board of governors, Dr. T Lima Jamir, cultural presentation by Ao friends, speech by past student, Yashika Sangtam and special prayer for freshers by principal, Rev. S Wati.
Later, down to lane of DBC was delivered by academic dean, associate professor Narola Walling while benediction was proposed by associate professor, Dr. Asane. Altogether, 82 freshers joined the college.
