Raids against tobacco conducted in Wokha, Mon

Enforcement drive on sale of tobacco products within 100 metres of educational institutions was conducted at Wokha and Mon towns. 

Wokha: National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) flying squad led by district nodal officer, NTCP Wokha, police, DBs and District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) members conducted a raid on sale of prohibited tobacco products in an area within a radius of 100 meters of educational institutions under COTPA Section 6 (b) on March 30.
According to DIPR report, during the raid, five defaulters were penalised and prohibited items were seized.
Later, the seized products were destroyed in the presence of COTPA flying squad members.
DNO, Wokha also informed that similar raids would be conducted frequently as per the laid down COTPA sections and law.
Mon: For effective implementation of COTPA 2003, an enforcement drive on sale of tobacco products within 100 metres of educational institutions was carried out under NTCP on March 26 at Mon town.
According to DIPR report, a team consisting of representatives from district administration, excise department, police and Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) was led by district nodal officer NTCP Mon, Dr. I Simon Sumi and district consultant NTCP Mon, Nyeamying Konyak. 
25 shops around educational institutions were found selling tobacco products. The team seized the products and burnt the items in a dumping area.
Kohima: District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Kohima along with North Police station and South Police station Kohima conducted an enforcement drive under COTPA 2003 Section 6(b) on March 23 wherein 50 offenders were penalised and seized tobacco items were destroyed at South Police station in the presence of the officers in-charge.
