DTCC and NTCP Phek trains police on COTPA

With an aim to carry out effective implementation of Tobacco Control Laws in the district, District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP), Phek organised training on Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 for police personnel on March 25 at Phek Town Council Hall.

A press release by NTCP Phek stated that in the keynote address, Superintendent of Police (SP) Phek, Vesupra Kezo advised the personnel to be aware of the various sections and effectively implement the laws and enforce as per the provisions of the Act.

In the first session, psychologist NTCP, Phek sensitised the participants on harmful effects of tobacco, poisonous chemicals contain in tobacco etc., while in the second session, nodal officer NTCP Phek, Dr. Nichukholie Vupru briefed the police personnel on COTPA 2003.

The release informed that under the initiative of SP, NTCP staff along with the police personnel, civil society organisations and administration also carried out the enforcement drive on sale of tobacco products within the Phek town on March 30.

During the drive some shopkeepers were penalised for violation of COTPA section 6 and also Chalan were issued for violation of section 7 which were settled as per the laid down guidelines of the Act.
