Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has expressed dismay at the “pathetic condition” of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) building at Wokha town and sought the intervention of the chief minister in carrying out major renovation until new construction took place.
In a representation addressed to the state chief minister, LSU president Ashanthung Humtsoe and general secretary Pithungo Shitio pointed out that GHSS building was constructed in the year 1968 and ever since the inception of the institution no major renovation has taken place.
LSU stated that current enrolment of students was 1200 and the school campus was one of the largest in Nagaland with no shortage of land to undertake any kind of infrastructure development.
However, due to the pathetic condition of the building, LSU said the students were facing a lot of hardships during monsoon season as there was no proper window and roofing.
Further, the union said that with the increase in number of students pursuing quality education, major renovations needed to take place at the earliest.
LSU also stated that concrete fencing needed to be properly demarcated in order to avoid any kind of land encroachments and for the security of the school property.
