Kiphire District Commercial Vehicle Union (KDCVU) has strongly backed the joint appeal of United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP), Yimchunger Tribal Council (YTC) and Eastern Sumi Hoho (ESH) urging different NPGs to abstain from imposing taxation against aspirational development activities in Kiphire district.
A press release by KDCVU media and press secretary stated that the union affirmed its resolute support to the three apex tribal bodies of Kiphire in its endeavour to stop all forms of illegal taxation to vehicles ferrying essential commodities from Dimapur and other cities to Kiphire. The union stated that with Kiphire being located far from most commercial towns and cities, rampant illegal collection of money resulted in “economic backwardness and inflations of prices which eventually affects the general public of Kiphire district.”
KDCVU appreciated the measures taken by various NPGs within Kiphire district “in restraining collection of money from commercial vehicles in recent times.” In this regard, the union claimed that the recent move helped reduce the hiring charges by about Rs. 1800 of commercial vehicles ferrying essential commodities from Dimapur.
However, it stated that illegal collection of money was still in practice at certain towns/villages along the national/state highways heading to Kiphire.
Further, KDCVU urged various NPGs to discipline and penalise defiant cadres to curb the menace which was affecting the common people.
It also urged stakeholders and the general public not to remain silent and be content in paying the “inflated price,” but to speak out as many voices to push for a change.
