Despite frequent public complaints of lack of service, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) administrator Albert Ezung has claimed that the council was working round the clock to keep the town clean amidst the State-wide total lockdown.
Asked about the public complaints of untimely collection of garbage, the administrator told Nagaland Post that DMC sanitation workers lived in close proximity, and with one worker having tested positive for Covid-19, the rest were undergoing home isolation
But, he claimed that the council had made alternate arrangements to ensure that garbage was collected on time.
The DMC has around 30 vehicles, including tractors and trucks, which cover 96 colonies, including market areas, besides employing 170 workers, including drivers, labourers and supervisors.
Ezung mentioned that besides collecting garbage, the sanitation workers went around clearing drains and sanitising areas under DMC.
Regarding collection of garbage, he explained that this was done as per the garbage generation. So, he said garbage was collected regularly in some colonies, while in others this was done on alternate days or after two-three days.
He claimed that colony authorities had been informed of the day and time of collection of garbage.
Asserting that the council was trying it best to keep the town clean, the DMC administrator sought community participation during the lockdown. He also requested the public not to dump garbage on drains and continue keep their surroundings clean.
