COVID-19 pandemic: Meetings, activities, information & advisories

As Nagaland continue to witness surge in COVID-19 positive cases, the state government and respective district administrations have been issuing directives and advisories to mitigate the spread of the virus. Church, civil society organisations and others have also come forward to assist district task force in the fight against the pandemic.

Kma DTF meeting: Kohima DTF on COVID-19 held a virtual meeting on Monday and discussed vital issues pertaining to COVID-19 pandemic.

According to DIPR report, the meeting was headed by minister-in-charge for Kohima district minister PWD (housing and mechanical), Tongpang Ozukum, advisor urban development and municipal affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, advisor technical education and election, Medo Yhokha and state nodal officer for Kohima district & secretary PHED, Kesonyü Yhome, DC Kohima Gregory Thejawelie and Sr. SP Kohima, Kevithutuo Sophie.

During the meeting, DIO Kohima,Dr. Rupert informed that by the next few more sessions for 18+ beneficiaries, 30 doses would be left only while for 45+ category, a huge number of doses were still available as low turnout from this category was recorded.

He informed that steps have been initiated by increasing vaccination centres, intimated heath centres to mobilise vaccinators under all villages and conduct outreach sessions by coordinating village authority and BTF in these areas.

DC Kohima permits opening of hardware shops: DC & chairman, DTF Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie has informed that in addition to other permitted categories of shops/business establishments, hardware shops are hereby permitted to open as per the following schedule: On Wednesday the following shops may be opened: 1-High School; 2-Bayavi; 3-North Block; 4-Naga Bazaar; 5- Kitsubozou; 6-D Block; 7-Daklane and 8-New Market. Shops to open on Friday: 9-Midland; 10-Hospital Colony; 11-PWD; 12-Upper Chandmari; 13-Lower Chandmari; 14-Dziiviiri; 15-AG; 16-New Ministers’ Hill; 17-Agri forest; 18-paramedical (Merhulietsa) and 19-PR Hill.

MTBA to run kitchen at CCC: Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) will be running the kitchen at the revived Covid Care Centre (CCC), Marepkong at Mokokchung from June 1.

Speaking to Nagaland Post, MTBA Pastor Rev. Ponen Longchar said that the church decided to manage the kitchen at the centre after witnessing how asymptomatic Covid positive patients were being sent home to isolate.

The pastor said that this would contribute to further spread and infection of the virus as majority of the household shared common toilets besides other practical problems during home isolation.

During the interaction, the pastor added that besides running the kitchen, the church would offer telephonic counselling and prayers to Covid positive patients.

Mokokchung designated oxygen depot: State government has designated Mokokchung as zonal depot for districts of Tuensang, Longleng, Zunheboto, Noklak and Mokokchung for medical oxygen cylinders.

According to DIPR report, all the districts have specific allotments and that the districts can replace empty oxygen cylinders from the depot.

DC Mkg informs Covid positive patients: DC and DTF chairman Mokokchung Limawapang Jamir has informed all concerned that the Mokokchung CCC at Marepkong would start functioning from June 1. Covid positive individuals requiring admission to the centre to contact the officials — principal ITI Mokokchung Er. Vaccination camp in Mon: Four wheel vaccination camp for 45 years and above, frontline workers and health care workers was held at Mon town local ground on Monday wherein 78 beneficiaries availed the vaccines. (Correspondent)

4-day total lockdown at Chozuba from June1: ADC and BTF chairman for COVID-19 Chozuba, Theodore Yanthan has ordered a total lockdown with effect from June 1-4.

According to DIPR report, ADC has informed that all activities and movement of individuals/person will be suspended during the lock down period. 

The exceptions are: inter-district movement of vehicles, including those carrying medical supplies/oxygen cylinders and other medical equipment, essential commodities passing through Chozuba town; road construction companies passing through Chozubatown however, all other construction activities would remain suspended within the town jurisdiction during the lock down period; all health care facilities, pharmacies, movement of health care workers.

The ADC informed that CHC Chozuba would not be entertaining minor OPD cases except pregnancies, delivery cases and other medical emergencies however COVID-19 vaccination of 18+ years and COVID-19 testing would remain open; all commercial establishment are to remain closed; Shop owners/salesmen of the essential commodities to undergo mandatory testing; agriculture and allied activities will be allowed. However, farmers have been informed to stay in their respective fields in advance before the lock down begins.

All other government offices shall remain closed and the core groups have been advised to work from home; PHED, electrical, press media and ISPs are exempted; all banks to remain closed during the period; petrol pumps and other fuel outlets to remain closed during the 72 hour lockdown period; all places of mass gathering are barred except for funerals with a limitation of 20 persons; administration, police, armed forces/paramilitary are exempted from the purview of this lockdown.
