Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (DSSU) has appealed to the internet service providers to adopt “extra ordinary measures” for a stabilised network.
In a press release, DSSU president L Kivipu Shohe and general secretary N Mugha Aye urged the network service operators to promptly install towers where it was needed and to stabilise the network as poor connectivity was a “big hassle for many students in this hard times”.
Asserting that the internet speed was much slower than the speed of subscribed plan, DSSU said that several complaints had been raised from time to time yet the issue remained unsolved.
“The greater problem lies ahead as most of the educational institutions which had began their online classes in full swing and Nagaland University UG Examinations round the corner”, DSSU stated.
In this regard, the union said that the resolving the issue was entirely upon service providers operating in Nagaland.
Since the imposition of lockdown, DSSU said the government and the responsible department adopted various techniques and started classes through online platforms, but due to lack of proper network connectivity, it had shadowed all the programmes and expected desired response was yet to be achieved.
DSSU also maintained that the situation was worse for students from remote, non-urban areas where one had to trek for a few kilometres to get proper signal.
Further, DSSU stated it expected satisfying action at the earliest keeping in mind the interest and welfare of the student community at large.
