‘Angh’ selected for Palm Springs International Short Fest

Angh (a short film from Nagaland) has been selected to screen at another “Oscar Qualifying Film Festival” after the successful world premiere and after winning a “Special Mention Jury award” at the Clermont Ferrand International Film Festival in France.

The short film will be screened under the “International Competition category” at the Palm Springs International Short Fest.

The film is written and directed by 26 year old Theja Rio and produced by Nancy Nisa Beso. It was shot on a Super 16mm Kodak by Italian DOP Vincenzo Condorelli.

The film takes place in 1963, in the extremely rural parts of Nagaland and follows a village chief (former headhunter) and his son who remain the last people in the region to be converted into Christianity.

“We are extremely grateful and humbled that our film from the foothills of the North East of India has travelled so far. We obviously never imagined anything remotely close to this and have no words to describe the joy and pride we have in our hearts” said Theja Rio.

The festival will be held from June 22 to 28 at Palm Springs California and Angh will have its first screening at the Camelot Theatres.

Palm Springs International Short Fest is one of the biggest and most important film festivals in the

United States that has helped launched the careers of many successful filmmakers in Hollywood.

Just ahead of its 27th festival, the annual Palm Springs International Short Fest announced its 2021 lineup that would showcase nearly 300 films.

The festival will have 32 world premieres, 13 international premieres, 46 North American premieres and 22 US premieres.

All in-theater screenings will take place at the Camelot Theatres at the Palm Springs Cultural Center.

It may be mentioned that Anita (India/USA) a short film directed by Sushma Khadepaun is the only other Indian film in the festival this year.

The film “Angh” also had its US premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) in the month of May.
