
The 7th Sürümi Award Trust (SAT) presentation ceremony for toppers from the village in various Cl-X board examinations 2017 was held at Sürümi village on December 27.
A press release from SAT stated that guest speaker was Lt. Col. Yeshika Awomi of Kumaon Regiment, who exhorted students at SBC (Aizüto). Lt. Col Awomi stated that true and wholesome education enabled an individual to realize one’s ability to think and act, understand right from wrong, and help one in becoming someone useful for the society. He advised students to leave aside ego and be inquisitive, seek help from elders and intellectuals as education was a lifelong process. He said that whether one studied in private or government school, it all depended on the sincerity of the individual and amount of hard labour. He cited the example of elders who had succeeded in life inspite of having to undergo many hardships.
He therefore called upon the present generation to seek true education which would give proper understanding and ability to utilize the acquired knowledge into useful work.
The speaker also warned students to be more alert and make good use of the technology advancement instead of wasting time on useless gossip and surfing. He also asked students to visualize where he/she or friends were going to be in 10 years and apprised them of the consequences to be faced then. He honestly disclosed that he was never a topper nor an awardee or medalist, but his success in becoming an army officer was due to his aim and determination.
SAT Akighiche Saxu 2017 (Certificate of Excellence) was awarded to four toppers under the following categories: Rural (Sürümi) Akalu I. Aye of Mount View School, Sürühuto; Rural (Sürühuto Area) Vinikali G. Sumi of MVS Sürühuto; General (CBSE & others) Likivi I. Awomi of Miles Bronson Residential School, Guwahati; General (NBSE) Festus K. Awomi of Seven Home School, Zünheboto The award which carries a citation and cash price was given away by Mhabeni Yeshika.
Earlier, the proceedings started with invocation by women pastor Hukheli Nikuto, while welcome speech was delivered by the VCC Akuto, GB. The congregation was also enthralled by recitation of Sürümi Nachummi Leshe and a special song by Ilika Achumi of Zünheboto SC and Sürümi church leaders, respectively.
The programme attended by about 400 people was chaired by the SAT secretary, Hotoshe Sema Awomi with benediction from Tonili Chishi, women leader.
